The objective of this course is to present the diseases and health issues related to water. Different types of water related diseases and how they are transmitted will be presented. This will be followed by prevention strategies which can be employed to minimize the transmission of these diseases.

CONFRONTING SCARCITY: Managing water, energy and land for inclusive and sustainable growth

Water, energy and land, three crucial resources for development and human well-being, are under increasing strain due to rising food prices, climate change, global population growth and economic growth. Today almost a billion people are undernourished, 0.9 billion have no safe water and 1.5 billion no source of electricity. Worse still, at current rates, by 2030 demand for energy and water will have grown by 40% – and by 50% for food.

Taking place in Marseille from 12th to 17th March 2012 in Marseille, the 6thWorld Water Forum is a major event in the international political and environmental agenda. Designed to be the Forum of Solutions, the 6th edition of the World Water Forum aims to generate concrete solutions to issues of access to water and sanitation, in particular through the launch of an online solutions platform.

Final Call for Nominations: 2012 Stockholm Industry Water Award

The Stockholm International Water Award recognises the business sector's contribution to sustainable water management, by minimising water consumption and environmental impact. It is given to any sector of business and industry. It recognises improved performance in production processes, new products, and management, as well as innovative approaches in water and wastewater process technologies which together help to improve the world water situation.

The International Seminar was co-organised by the French Water Academy and UNESCO drawing upon a steering committee constituted of 9 relevant institutions. This seminar aimed at identifying solutions to be forwarded to the 6th World Water Forum and to the main events of climate negotiations (Durban, Rio+20, etc.).

This year, the IWA 2012 PIA features a NEW award category - MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS.

This category applies to Marketing and Communications related to a water/wastewater project, operations/management of related facilities, customer service activities, or public education campaigns.

Every three years since 1997, the World Water Forum mobilises creativity, innovation, competence and know-how in favour of water. It gathers all stakeholders around today’s local, regional and global issues that cannot be undertaken without all stakeholders into a common framework of goals and concrete targets to reach.
